Households in Singapore may soon be able to compare their utility bills against their neighbours’.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) said this was one way to encourage people to be more energy efficient.

Currently, bills are compared against national average consumption.

EMA will work with Singapore Power (SP) in the next six months to look at ways to present information so that users can gauge their expenses against others.

For a start, they will test out the project with about 280,000 online SP accounts.

They hope to eventually roll it out to all 1.2 million families in Singapore.
